Luciano Pimienta is a Los Angeles-based artist, best known for his ephemeral work and practice rooted in clay. Drawing deeply from personal narratives and familial history, he explores human nature, particularly the notion of desire. Inspired by the processes found in nature, such as erosion, everyday elements like the nopal or chain link fence are transformed into tools for navigating. Pimienta’s inquiry extends to how history and learning shape societal perspectives on nature, one’s relationship to land, and our sense of belonging.
Pimienta invites viewers to contemplate the intrinsic qualities that shape our understanding of art and the ceramic process. Recent exhibitions such as Material Witness at City Gallery in San Diego, Alien Race: Envisioning sites of our future ancestors at LA Artcore in Los Angeles, and Ways of Knowing at Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego showcased his interest in nature as material.
